"In many cases artist's personality exists somehow independently of  their art. The public may know their works but almost completely ignorant of heir creators. But this has nothing in common with Maija Tabaka case. It is hard to imagine another personality so deeply integrated with her art as Maija Tabaka. She becomes literally identified with her paintings. An attentive spectator can read them like autobiography, examining the artist's life through months and uears. Maija Tabaka's paintings are very narrative. Maybe she is an unrealised writer. Her painted messages proceed as on a stage, but the director of this play sometimes turns into an  actress and appears in its footlights."

"Maija Tabaka stepped into the 21st century with works that are more than ever endower with the unsettled, disconnected and fragmentary world of today. Everything at the same time and same place. Egyptian pyramids, exotic "Izabella's Trips", dancing in a mountain lake, The Rundale Palace, ghost images of ancient Latvians - all resembles a kaleidoscopic reflection of the world brought before our eyes by television and mass media every day. They still are elusive, independent inner visions and never programmatic, moralising messages. Their tendency is created by an increasing wish to escape from the rigid confines of the banal  contemporary life, traveling to distant countries and periods.
